Preheat oven to 175C (350F). This is standard American casserole temperature - works fine.
Melt butter in a small pan and cook the onion until soft, about 5 minutes. (I use butter instead of margarine - tastes better and it's actual food)
In a large bowl, mix both soups with the milk and cheese until smooth.
Stir in the broccoli, rice, ham, and cooked onion until everything is combined.
Transfer to a buttered 23x33cm (9x13 inch) baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 45-50 minutes until the rice is tender.
Classic American comfort food casserole. My brewery colleagues love this - it's hearty and feeds a crowd. Not exactly Austrian cuisine, but sometimes you need something simple that works.
