    flour

    shortening

    white wine vinegar

  • 2 pounds
    apples, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon
    lemon juice
  • ⅓ cup
    sugar

    cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon
    nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon
    salt
  • 2 tablespoons
    flour
  • 2 tablespoons

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400° F.

  2. 10 mins

    PIE CRUST:
    Mix together flour, shortening, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk egg, water, and vinegar together. Combine both mixtures, and mix until mixture forms a ball and cleans the bowl -- it will lose all its stickiness.

  3. 15 mins

    Divide dough in half and roll out. Place one half in a 9-inch pie pan.

  4. 5 mins

    PIE FILLING:
    Mix together the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and flour. Toss the apple slices in the lemon juice, and then add the apples to the sugar mixture.

  5. 5 mins

    Place filling inside crust in pie pan. Dot with butter, and top with remaining pastry dough.

  6. 40 mins

    Bake at 400° F for 40-50 mins. Let cool before serving.
