Better tasting, and cheaper, than store bought. Does not take long at all to make, too!
Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.
Let stand. Should become 'frothy', letting you know your yeast is alive and well.
Add butter, mix well. Allow butter to fully melt before continuing.
Add egg and about 1/3 of the flour. Mix into a smooth paste.
Add most of the remaining flour. Knead till a smooth, taught ball can be formed. Add more flour as needed to render dough not sticky.
Split into 8 equal pieces, and roll into taught balls. Place seam side down on baking sheet.
Preheat oven to 220c (425F).
Cover with a tea towel and let rest.
Bake uncovered for 10-12 minutes till golden brown on top.
optional
Brush tops with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven.
Allow to rest and cool completely.
