Tesoro, I know this is not how nonna would do it, but sometimes we need quick. In saucepan, whisk together the packet with butter and milk - use the whisk like you mean it, no lumps allowed!
Bring to boil over medium heat, always whisking. When it bubbles, turn down and let simmer 3 minutes until thick like cream.
Take your casserole dish - 2 quart, grease it good with butter. Now layer like this: potatoes, then onions, then sauce. Repeat until finished, ending with sauce on top. (The potatoes must be thin, caro - thick slices will not cook tender in microwave)
Cover tight and microwave on medium-high 20-25 minutes. Every 7-8 minutes, stop and stir gently with wooden spoon - this helps cook even.
When fork goes through potatoes easy, is done. Let rest 3 minutes before serving - the sauce will thicken more.
