Minnie's Molasses Cookies

Makes a lot! Half batch good. Recipe from the Adironacks by way of Maine.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups
    butter, melted (3 sticks)
  • 1 cup
    sugar
  • 1 cup
    brown sugar
  • 1½ cups
    molasses
  • 2
    eggs
  • 6 cups
    flour
  • 1 teaspoon
    ginger
  • 1 teaspoon
    cloves
  • 2 teaspoons
    salt
  • 4 teaspoons
    baking soda

Preparation

  1. Mix together melted butter, sugars, molasses, and eggs. Set aside.

  2. In another bowl, mix together the flour, spices, salt, and soda. Stir dry ingredients with wet ingredients. Dough will be soft and sticky.

  3. 2 hrs

    Chill dough for ease in forming the cookies.

  4. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  5. Make small balls of dough (2-3 tablespoons each) and roll in a bowl of white sugar to coat.

  6. Place on a cookie sheet. Do not flatten.

  7. 20 mins

    Bake until top is soft and starting to crack, approx. 10-12 minutes.
