Chocolate Frosted Brownies (Cakelike)

My mother used to make these while we were growing up.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups
    Flour
  • 2 cups
    Sugar
  • 8 ounces
    Butter
  • ½ cup
    Shortening
  • 4 tablespoons
    Cocoa
  • 1 cup
    Water
  • 2
    Eggs
  • ½ cup
    Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon
    Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoon
    Cinnamon
  • 8 ounces
    Butter (for frosting)
  • 4 tablespoons
    Cocoa (for frosting)
  • 6 tablespoons
    Milk (for frosting)
  • 16 ounces
    Powdered Sugar (for frosting)

Preparation

    Mix flour and sugar together.

  2. 3 mins

    In saucepan, heat together butter, shortening, cocoa, and water. Add to flour and sugar mixture.

  3. 2 mins

    In separate bowl, beat eggs, buttermilk, baking soda, vanilla, and cinnamon. Combine with flour, sugar, etc. mixture.

  4. 2 mins

    Spread mixture onto 11"x17" greased cookie sheet.

  5. 20 mins

    Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees, then cool.

  6. 5 mins

    To make frosting, mix butter, cocoa, milk, and powdered sugar together. Nuts may be added if desired. Frost brownies when cooled.
