The richness of this hot chocolate sets it apart.
The ingredients.
Melt the butter over medium-low heat.
Remove from heat and whisk the cocoa powder into the butter.
Whisk a small amount of cream into the mixture.
Return the pan to heat and slowly and add the rest of the cream, little by little, whisking the entire time.
Whisk in the sugar.
Whisk in the milk, little by little.
Allow the liquid to heat, stirring occassionally. When it begins to simmer, it is done. (If you have a thermometer, 160F is a good target.)
All done!
Some good alterations include:
- substituting coffee for some portion of the milk
- adding a few drops of vanilla extract
- adding spices, such as cinnamon or cardamom

Seemed easy enough so last night I made this for wife and kid. Very sweet, albeit temporary, feeling of being family hero. One suggestion is rename it chocolate drinking sauce.
